Shannon and Matt are expecting their second beautiful daughter, Evalee Stella Rose, originally due on June 14, 2010. Due to a very rare sacrococcygeal teratoma she will be born via cesarean section 3-4 months early.
A sacrococcygeal tertoma is a large tumor forming from the base of her spine, both externally and internally.
It happens to 1 in 40,000 babies. The vascular development in her tumor is causing her heart to work twice as hard.
Shannon and Matt were given the choice to terminate, but they chose life!
Evalee has made past viability, 24 weeks! She is expected at any time now, but the longer she stays in,
the better. Her tumor will be removed shortly following her birth. The doctors are giving her a reasonable chance at life. With the early gestational birth (27-28 weeks), the tumor and the surgery, things have remained uncertain and they wait anxiously for each doctor visit.
Evalee will be in the NICU for many months and her parents will be by her side as often as possible.
The bills have already started piling up for this courageous family, since Shannon was put on bed rest.
Once little Evalee arrives, there are going to be even more financial burdens placed upon the family. They will need all of the support, prayers and help as they can get. The costs associated with such a long hospital stay, hours away from any family, will be overwhelming. Let's help them focus on Evalee's safe arrival and recovery!
If you are able to help, however great or small, it would be a tremendous blessing to the family. They will need assistance with covering expenses for not only their pending medical expenses, but things such as laundry, food, childcare for Addisyn, and the many other miscellaneous costs that may arise.
All donations will go directly to Shannon and Matt.
